Chesterfield Cycle Campaign

Beauty and the Bike is a Darlington-based project set up to explore why girls stop cycling in the UK.  A short video programme was released in late 2009 documenting the views of a small group of young women and their experiences of a trip to Bremen in Germany, where most young women cycle on practical Dutch-style bikes and in fashionable clothes.

Four months on another programme has been released.  'Beauty and the Bike - What Happened Next?" returns to find out whether the girls are still cycling and why some of them have stopped.
