Chesterfield Canal Trust Emergency Appeal for £5,500

Site of new Staveley Canal BasinChesterfield cyclists are lucky to have the Chesterfield Canal on their doorstep, thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Chesterfield Canal Trust and its partners.

The next major development is a new Staveley Basin which is being built as the result of a recent award of £500,000 from the East Midlands Development Agency.  The Trust is also seeking to eventually raise around £300,000 to build a new lock at Staveley, right next to the Basin.

However, initially the Trust is applying to funders for the £50,000 required to lay the base pad of the lock.  It will be cheaper to do this as part of the Basin contract than if it has to be let as a separate contract.  Once the base is laid, the Trust's Work Party will build the lock itself.

With this in mind, the Trust needs to raise £5,500 as soon as possible, as its contribution to the cost of the base pad.  Any donation that you can make will be welcome.  Please send it to the Chesterfield Canal Trust's Treasurer at 47, Whitecotes Park, Walton, Chesterfield, S40 3RT.
