This is the land south of Pottery Lane East. Planning Permission has been granted for several car showrooms and offices here. In the original plans there was a short section of cycle track from the bank of the River Rother to the centre of the site. The Campaigns suggestion was that the cycle track be extended to Pottery Lane East and a bridge built over the river to connect with the Trans Pennine Trail. The council agreed with the first point but said a bridge was too expensive.
Further to this the local Sustrans Ranger called a meeting to discuss the bridge with representatives fom this Campaign, Sustrans, DCC and the Canal Partnership. Due to flood defence reasons a bridge would be very expensive, however an alternative route alongside the river to the Tapton Lock area may be a possibility. All parties are now trying to persue this.
The first car showroom is now open and there is a shared path from Pottery Lane to the river. We look forward to this eventually being linked with Tapton Lock.
