Outline planning application for Waterside Development

An outline planning application has been submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council for the Waterside development site alongside the A61, to the north of the town centre. The application is the largest ever submitted in Chesterfield and is the result of 5 years of preparation work by the Chesterfield Waterside Partnership, a joint venture between Chesterfield Borough Council and Urbo.

The plans include 1,550 residential dwellings (houses and apartments), 2,200 sq m of retail and leisure space and 30,350 sq m of office accommodation. In addition, the project will provide two hotels, a doctor’s surgery, a crèche, a health and fitness facility, a nursing home and two six-level multi-storey car parks.

The focal point for Chesterfield Waterside will be the recently completed Canal Basin and a large new public square. This sits alongside waterways which will be restored as part of the development, forming a green corridor with extensive public open spaces and an Eco Park which equates to approximately a third of the overall site area.

It is anticipated that the scheme proposals will be considered by the Council over the coming months and a decision is expected before spring 2010. The development delivery period for the scheme is likely to be 10 to 15 years.

Plans and other consultation documents are available to view online, on Chesterfield Borough Council's website:
