Critical Mass ride - 22nd Sept

Hello All

I thought you'd like to see the details for the next critical mass.

Critical Mass cycle ride - a celebration of cycling in the rush hour
meet from 5pm, Monday 22nd September, outside the Town Hall

It's European Car Free Day, so come out and join us for a ride round Chesterfield's rush hour to celebrate cycling!

European Car Free Day (also known as 'In Town Without My Car') is an annual event firmly fixed in the calendar across much of Europe and beyond, with many towns and cities closing their streets to cars for the day. We didn't quite manage that for Chesterfield, but we can still ride our bicycles... Critical Mass is an international phenomenon, with some cities seeing hundreds, or even thousands, of riders out on monthly rush hour rides. We're not being quite that ambitious, but we do need a good turn out to have an impact.

We'll meet outside the Town Hall from 5pm and set off at 5:30pm for a tour round the busier areas of Chesterfield - possibly including Saltergate, Chatsworth Road, and Derby Road. Wear reflective gear or bright colours to make sure you're seen, wave cheerfully to the people stuck in traffic jams, and ride safely. If possible bring signs or painted t-shirts with friendly slogans to explain what you're up to. We'll be back outside the Town Hall by 6:30pm.

This is great opportunity to raise the profile of cycling, have a bit of fun and show some solidarity with cyclists all over the world. The more the merrier, so please join in and bring your friends and colleagues!
