Chesterfield Cycle Campaign promotes cycle use in Chesterfield for both leisure and utility journeys. By campaigning for a comprehensive network, we aim to improve conditions for cyclists so that cycling becomes a safer and more attractive option than car travel for local journeys.
As part of the Campaigns commitment to promoting cycle use we fitted a cycle rack at the rear of the Chesterfield Law Centre today. The car park which is shared between several offices had no cycle parking previously. The rack was paid for by the Campaign. The rack is for 5 bikes and cost less than £50 including bolts to fit it to the wall.
In celebration of European Car Free Day 10 members of the Campaign gathered outside Organic Heaven for a cyclists breakfast at 8.00am.

Family Cycle Ride SUNDAY September 28th
We had planned to ride to Rother Valley Country Park, BUT, as you can read below the Trans Pennine Trail is closed for resurfacing around Renishaw, this coupled with the closure and diversion in Staveley has caused this ride to be cancelled.
This week, the Trans Pennine Trail has been temporarily closed for maintenance and improvement. The work is due for completion by 7th November. Derbyshire County Council has released the following announcement:
"Derbyshire County Council has commenced maintenance and improvement works to the Trans Pennine Trail in North East Derbyshire. The works will concentrate on a four kilometre stretch of the trail between the County boundary with South Yorkshire at Beighton and a point known locally as “Miner’s Crossing” just south of the A6135 road bridge at Renishaw.
Construction work will be undertaken by R B Allfree & Co Ltd of Chesterfield and is due to begin during the week beginning 15th September. Works are anticipated to last for around eight weeks, finishing in early November.
During the construction period, it will be necessary to officially close the Trans Pennine Trail along this stretch to protect the safety of the general public. Temporary closure notices providing further details will be posted on site at designated access points onto the trail. It is our intention to retain access for all users along the trail as normal during the works as far as is reasonably practicable.
If you require any further information about the works, please contact Wayne Bexton, Greenways and Countryside Officer, on 01629 580000 or by email at wayne.bexton@derbyshire.gov.uk."
A copy of the closure notice and a map showing the affected section can be viewed here (PDF, 1.8 MB).
The cycle lanes on Brimington Road, which previously only ran as far as Tapton Park, have now been extended to its full length as far as the A619.
Five Campaign members cycled from Holymoorside to Matlock on Sunday 7th Sept. Good weather on the way out, lunch at the organic 'Greenways' cafe, but typically for this year a good soaking on the return.

A large mural has been painted on the Queen's Park bridge support. It depicts the face of 'Lalla' the little girl whose statue is in the park. The photo is taken from the Queen's Park bike track.
The next photo is of the new bike track through the Donkin site on the old branch line alignment. The track is not yet open.
