Chesterfield Cycle Campaign promotes cycle use in Chesterfield for both leisure and utility journeys.  By campaigning for a comprehensive network, we aim to improve conditions for cyclists so that cycling becomes a safer and more attractive option than car travel for local journeys.

Monthly Bulletin

The Secretary will be posting a monthly news bulletin of what's been happening concerning cycling issues in Chesterfield. This is intended as a complement to our printed quarterly newsletter. See the menu on the left for the link.

It will be e mailed to members around the beginning of the month if we have your e mail address . The first bulletin was sent out by e mail on December 18th, if you didn't receive it and would like to, please contact the secretary to add your e mail address to the list (Campaign members only I am afraid).

Campaign Christmas Social

Around thirty members came along to the Crispin for the Campaigns Christmas social on Tuesday 8th December plus several more from the Brampton Community Band. Quite a few members of the band are Campaign members as well!. As well as the music we enjoyed a quiz compiled by Barry Kay.

Hospital Cycling Infrastucture

The Royal Hospital has put in place visitor cycle parking at last, there are now 'Sheffield' stands outside the main entrance, maternity and the visitors entrance. In addition a shared route has been signed from the rear entrance from Plover Hill Farm/Wetlands Lane running to the Somerset House pub and the traffic lit entrance on Chesterfield Road.

Railway Station Survey

Network Rail want some real people to engage to decide what happens with local stations and want the people who use them to have their say.

Go to the survey here.

Campaign December Meeting

For our December meeting on the 8th we will meet at The Crispin on Ashgate Road.  From 7.30pm. Brampton Community Band will play for us at around 8.00pm.

The Campaign are arranging for sandwiches to be available (free!) but we would like an idea of numbers. So if you intend to come along could you reply to the Secretary please?

Hope to see you there.

Monsal Trail

Plans to reopen four old railway tunnels on the Monsal Trail in the Derbyshire Peak District have been given the go-ahead.
The Peak Park Authority has approved the project to allow public access to the tunnels for walking, cycling and horse riding.
The tunnels, between Buxton and Bakewell, were closed when the rail route was axed in the late 1960s.
Work on the £3.785m project will start early next year.
It will create a linked rail and cycle route from cities in the North West and Midlands into the National Park.
The council said it would help boost local tourism with cycle-based travel packages.

Dec 5th Climate Change Blue Flood March

No need to go to London! Clay Cross are having their very own march while the climate change talks are taking place in Copenhagen.

One of our members has suggested a Campaign ride to take part;

The Climate Change Blue Flood March organised by Clay Cross has details on the attached flyer.  They welcome any and all support from Chesterfield

I was intending to cycle to it, and it would be good if any others wanted to cycle as well, we could go together.

Meet Queens Park 9.30 in the hope of getting away by 9.45.

I don't know the routes to Clay Cross and would appreciate advice from those who know them.

Contact the secretary who will coordinate if you are interested.
